At the start of the lockdown in March 2020, sculptors Megan Biddle and Nichola Kinch, friends and neighbors in the Germantown section of Philadelphia began hiking in the Wissahickon. This practice of walking created a way to experience togetherness and find solace. Coupled with a deepening admiration for the local landscape, this gave way to an increasing desire to tap into their collective creative energy. As winter came and daylight disappeared, a longing for light and warmth in the home emerged. A desire for ceremony surrounding the solstice compelled the artists, aligned in their connection to rich elemental materials, to develop the DMG+MXN collaboration. This collection of handmade and one of a kind objects share a palette derived from seasonal shifts and the natural world. These small functional sculptures are designed to infuse rituals of the home with light and warmth.
